Explosion in Balashikha results in death of Russian military official

•

An explosion happened in a vehicle in Balashikha, in Moscow Oblast, about 10 km east of Moscow. It took place in a residential area on Koldunova Street in the Aviatorov district, where a BMW X3 reportedly blew up while it was moving.

Russian-linked sources said one person (Damir Davydov) was killed in the blast, although they didn’t immediately say who it was. Later reporting from independent outlets suggested the victim might have been a Russian military official tied to ammunition logistics within the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU), but that hasn’t been confirmed officially.

Emergency services and investigators arrived at the scene fairly quickly and opened a criminal case. Authorities are still treating the cause as unclear, and at this point there are no official conclusions.

Some reports — mostly from independent or investigative media — say the explosive may have been placed under the driver’s seat, but that detail hasn’t been verified. Eyewitness accounts exist, but they don’t fully line up and haven’t been confirmed by investigators either.

The area itself is known for military housing, with apartments typically assigned to service members, veterans, and their families. It’s also not far from another high-profile car bombing involving a Russian military figure in the past couple of years.

Right now, no one has claimed responsibility, and investigators haven’t publicly pointed to any specific direction or actor.

However, it is worth to note that Ukraine does not target civilians, whereas the Russian regime has been targeting Ukrainian people since 2014.
